We started jeeping in 2007 (West Coast Jeep Blog) which lead to me getting back into the offroad world. I grew up riding dirt bikes in the Southern California Desert. To fulfill my addiction I picked up a 1988 CR 250 R. The know if you can adjust it aside from setting the sag (tightening the shock spring). I should mention that tightening the shock spring has no effect on how stiff the suspension is, all it does is determine the ride height of the bike. Sag is determined by weight, height has nothing to do with it. Someone who is 200lbs definitely needs stiffer springs, but I would strongly recommend a new bike anyway. '01 WR250F - IMS or YZ tank (depending on the ride), YZ rad shrouds, Acerbis, GYT-R clutch basket, EBC clutch kit, GYT-R fuel screw, auto-decomp YZ exh cam, YZ throttle stop, 40 pilot, un-corked muffler w custom insert, air-box mod, blue acerbis fork guards, blue acerbis number plates, primary drive steel sprockets & X ring chain, various HP boosting stickers, JD jetting kit, T.M. Designworks chain guide, YZ rear fender If you want to get a h.p. gain out of that bike, you're gonna have to spend between 3 and $400.00 for a full exhaust. A slip-on exhaust would be a waste of money. A minimal improvement, if any. So, I suggest you just enjoy the bike as is, because "cheap as possible" won't get you there. I have an 02 DR carb needed some adjustments, other than that it runs awesome for a 30 year old bike. I’ve done two weekend out in Ocotillo Wells getting used to riding. Thanks to working out 3 days a week the only real soreness has been the forearms and wrists. The goal is to upgrade to a CR 500 and hopefully do some desert racing next year. This blog is to document the travels to that goal :) 200lbs is quite a bit for that bike. The suspension on that bike isn't that adjustable to my knowledge. I don't even DHH headlight, Scotts steering stabilizer & top clamp, Fatbars (RC bend), Works Conn skid plate & frame guards, K&N air filter, SDG complete gripper seat, Z 400-S and I put on a Big Gun full exhaust, plus a Dynojet needle and spring and a KnN filter, and that bike came alive. A very noticeable improvement. I love it, and it sounds great also! Trail Tech computer & billet dashboard, Harri's WEC grips, Moose hand guards w/MSR deflectors, Boyesen QS, Yamaha rear fender bag, MSR shifter We started jeeping in 2007 (West Coast Jeep Blog) which lead to me getting back into the offroad world.
